US sends claim over Russia’s import duties to WTO

MOSCOW, Aug 29 (PRIME) -- The U.S. has sent a request to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to host consultations with Russia on a conflict over import duties on some of U.S. goods, the organization said in a statement on Wednesday.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law 25% import duties on steel and 10% on aluminum in March.

Russia retaliated on August 5 with 25–40% duties on cargo carriers, road construction, oil and gas, metals processing, drilling equipment and optic fiber.
